Symphony User Groups
Symphony provides the management controls necessary to create and manage groups in Symphony. Authorization for users to use product features and functions is controlled by the privileges, permissions, and attributes that are assigned to users, groups, and tenants.
Note: When using SAML single sign-on protocol, users and groups may be automatically provisioned in Symphony (account level synchronization). For more information, see Symphony Supported Authentication Tools.
Users can belong to multiple groups. You can also have groups inside of groups.
Note: In general, groups and group membership is primarily managed in Symphony, using the Symphony interface and integrated tools from the Managed module (even if you are only using Visual Data Discovery). Some tasks can be performed, if needed, in the Visual Data Discovery module.
Default Symphony groups include:
Managed Dashboards Module
Everyone - All users are members.
Global Users - System administrators and users you select belong to this group and can access all global content, including content in Visual Data Discovery. Users can see all content as their privileges permit if there are no tenants with separate content in your environment.
Developers - Membership depends on the seat type of a user.
Power Users - Membership depends on the seat type of a user.
Standard Users - Membership depends on the seat type of a user.
System Administrators - Includes users who are system administrators.
Tenant Administrators (tenant name) - Includes users who are admins for a tenant. This group is created by Symphony.
Tenant Members (tenant name) - Includes users who are members of a tenant. This group is created by Symphony.
Visual Data DiscoveryModule
Administrators - All system admins belong to this group. If you are in a tenant, this group contains your tenant admins only.
Content Distributors - All system admins belong to this group. Add non-admin members to this group as needed by editing the user to enable the VDD Content Distributor toggle. This allows them to import and export content across tenants for Visual Data Discovery resources.
Supervisors - All system admins belong to this group in all environments. Add non-admin members to this group if needed. This allows them to perform a subset of administrator level tasks in your environment.
Use the Symphony Groups Work Area
Create, manage, and update user group basics as needed all in one place in the Symphony interface.
If you find you need to make more detailed changes to group privileges, you can navigate to the appropriate module from this central location. View a list of groups, add new groups, and add or remove members of a group as needed.
System administrators can use this work area to view and manage group membership and basics for all tenant groups; search for a specific tenant's groups by searching by the tenant name.
